When to Use a Serum and Moisturizer

Moisturizers and serum come in handy to revitalize your skin. However, both products have different uses. Sometimes, your skin may require a serum alone and other times; you’ll need both.

Serums are lighter and thinner than moisturizers. They also contain various active ingredients that can penetrate the skin to make it spotless. This is why you need to apply the serum to your skin after toning and cleansing. It should also be applied before the sunscreen and moisturizer.

When to use serums

Serums are used in the morning and at night. They cannot replace the moisturizer, but boost the hydrating effects it provides. They are also used to tackle skin issues. You can find skin-brightening serums, anti-aging serum, and acne prevention serums among others.

When to use moisturizers

Moisturizers are creamier and thicker than serums. They hydrate the skin to prevent water loss. A few moisturizers have some ingredients that fight aging. However, if you need to handle a serious skin problem such as skin damage, a good serum may be needed.

Also, if you have skin issues such as skin aging and dark spots, combining your moisturizer with a serum daily can greatly improve your skin appearance.

For people with extremely oily skin, a serum can be used solely. It can provide enough hydration so you will not need a moisturizer.
