We use hair brushes every day, but there comes a time when you should ditch your old brush and look for a new one. Damaged brushes can lead to hair damage and scalp irritation, and here are three signs that you should say goodbye to your old brush.

Damaged Bristles

Pay close attention to the way the hair brush bristle looks because the state they’re in will tell you everything you need to know about your brush. If they’re bent, broken, too soft, or too stiff, you’ll have a hard time detangling your hair, and you might even break it while brushing.

Difficult Cleanup

The oil and hair can build up on the bristles over time, trapping everything from dead skin cells to dust. That’s why it’s important to clean up your brush every once in a while, but there comes a time when this is no longer an easy task. Ditch your brush if you’re struggling with the cleanup, to avoid scalp irritation and hair damage.

Long-Term Use

Like most things in life, hair brushes actually come with an expiration date and you shouldn’t expect yours to last forever. If you’ve been using the same brush for years, it’s probably time to look for a new one, especially if you’re noticing signs of damage.
