Tips on How to Save Money For Vacations

Let’s face it, we could all use a vacation, especially now that the holiday season is over. Budgeting for a vacation seems next to impossible as we’re still recovering from all the money we spent the past few months on presents. We have some ways for you to earn money before you even set off on your trip.

Make Use of Your Car

There’s a reason why Uber and Lyft are so popular these days; everyone is constantly on the go, looking for their next adventure. If you already have a full-time job, make use of your weekends by becoming a driver for one of these companies. Another option is to park your car at the airport and rent out your car to other travelers through travel companies. You’ll get to park at the airport for free and you’ll come home to a nice paycheck!

I have now been driving Lyft for a little over one year. I have some anxiety driving because I am visibly queer and transitioning. As a result, I have never said anything or alluded to any part of my identity to a passenger. Today, after a couple hours of driving, I picked up a very nice man to take to the airport. We had about an hour ride due to traffic, so I started to make conversation. He told me he worked for North Face and we talked about politics, law school, and the privilege that comes with certain identities. After that, he asked for my Instagram handle because he wanted to connect me to one of his friends. I was hesitant at first because of how open my account is, but I shared it with him because of the rapport we had built. He went on my Instagram and said he was so proud of me. He was referring to my six week post top surgery photo. He told me that he had never met a non-binary person before and that it was humbling. We continued to talk until I dropped him off. It was a wonderful ride and he shook my hand. When I got home, I looked on my Instagram and turns out my passenger was @conrad_anker , one of the most accomplished and famous climbers in our country. I will continue appreciating the brief beautiful moments I get to share with hundreds of strangers. • • • • • #hrt #nonbinary #nonbinarytrans #thisiswhattranslookslike #topsurgery #nonbinarytopsurgery #nonbinarytransition #transgender #theythem #queer #oneofthem #transmasculine #transmasc #oneofthem #ftn #ftx #trans #queer #them #pride #lyft #lyftdriver #ridesharedriver #lyftdrivers #lyftstory

Sell Unused Items

There has to be some junk lying around your house that you’ve probably forgotten about. Perhaps it’s your graduation robe, old textbooks, or your wedding dress? Your junk is someone else’s treasure and it can make you good money.

Rent Your Home

Do other travelers a favor by posting your home on Airbnb while you are on vacation. If you want to make money before you set off on your next vacation, rent out your home on the weekends and crash at a friend’s house.

Look For a Side Job

There are so many seasonal jobs available and we’re sure you’ll find one that interests you. Lifeguarding, retail working, babysitting, tour guiding at a museum, working at the zoo, etc. Just work a little harder before your vacation and you’ll have some pocket change to play around with.
