If you’re a keto beginner, you might be excited to be on the popular diet that is high in fat, and low in carbs. With drastically lowered carb intake, your body is forced to use fat as its primary source of fuel.

So, as a beginner to this new way of life, what should you eat? Well, we’ve taken the guesswork out of grocery shopping and drawn up a grocery list for you that will have you eating the keto way in no time.

In terms of fats, go for coconut and olive oils, nuts, ghee (clarified butter), and grass-fed butter. The vegetables you eat, which should be many and varied, should be low in carbs.

That means that things like potatoes, peas, and butternut squash are not good choices. Instead, opt for low-carb veggies such as leafy greens like kale, bok choi, lettuce, spinach, and chard.

Also on your list should be cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli, as well as cucumbers and asparagus.

To fulfill your protein requirements, choose pork, beef, bacon, chicken, shrimp, tuna, salmon,  and avocados, all of which also provide fats. Consult your doctor before making drastic dietary changes.
