Slick Woods has announced that she is launching her own jewelry line to fund minority-owned businesses.
Woods is one of the empowered women selected by Rihanna to front Fenty Beauty. Now, she has announced that she is dropping a jewelry collection ranging from $170 to $5000+. The collection will mostly use semi-precious metals and the entire range is unisex. It will be titled “C1V1L” and includes necklaces, bracelets, and rings.
Better still, Woods plans to invest 20% of the profits back into other minority and female-owned companies.
More and more brands are claiming to be “inclusive” and yet minority-owned businesses are still struggling to survive the shadow of big brands. Black culture is often exploited by these brands for profit, which rarely goes to minorities.
“We are supposed to entertain everybody with our words and the way we talk and we are just supposed to sing and dance. I’m trying to be king. I’m not trying to be the jester,” Slick said in an interview with Business of Fashion.
The release date for the Slick Woods collection is TBA.
