Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian revealed that she would be releasing her own shapewear line. The initial name she announced for the line was “Kimono,” but after criticisms of cultural insensitivity, the Kardashian has rebranded the collection as “Skims.”
“My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me—I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name,” Kim wrote on Instagram.
“After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™ coming September 10. I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies.”
The “solutionwear” collection of undergarments will be available in sizes XXS to 4XL and in nine different shades. The aim is to be inclusive, in terms of sizing and price. When Kim initially released the range under the name “Kimono,” this intention was lost as many people felt like the branding appropriated and disrespected Japanese culture.
Kim has since apologized and is now excited to re-introduce her inclusive, rebranded shapewear line.
